Radiotherapy
Radiotherapy speaks of Debbie James’ (The Outsiders Project Boscombe) memory of radiotherapy treatment whilst experiencing childhood cancer.
Innovative in its collaborative community production, we (myself, audio producer Jo Tyler, and Debbie) created the film together through a series of cross-disciplinary discussions and workshops. Creating, skill sharing, and most importantly a long-developing bond of trust, tears and joy was integral in this experimental approach.
Radiotherapy debuted in June 2023 at BEAF Arts Co festival in Boscombe, screening in the Sovereign Centre as part of the BEAF Group Show Hidden Voices: Portraits, Stories and Journeys.
The Radiotherapy project aims to encourage creative, autobiographical storytelling for those with lived experience, their carers and medical staff - increasing conversation, visibility and understanding, while offering a means to process.
The film was screened to over 150+ staff at Poole Hospital's Cancer Services in October 2023, and to staff at Dorset County Hospital in April 2024. The Cancer Services team at Poole Hopsital joined us for arts based storytelling workshops, engaging with creative writing, sound and visual art.
